Your Privacy Matters
We built the Release Over 20 app with angler privacy as a core principle. We know how important your fishing spots are - and we will never compromise that.
โ No GPS tracking
We never record your location. Your spots stay yours.
โ No data selling
We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties.
โ Catch data only
We collect species, size, and state - nothing that identifies where you fish.
โ Secure storage
Your data is stored securely and only used to power our leaderboards and conservation records.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the app really free?
Yes - completely free to download and use. No ads, no subscriptions, no hidden costs. We created this app to remove all possible barriers to entry, making the process of entering fish as quick and easy as possible - something that definitely wasn't true before the app existed. For example, once you log in you're always logged in. Just open the app and tap "Submit Catch".
What species can I log?
We currently accept five species: Red Drum, Spotted Seatrout (Speckled Trout), Sheepshead, Flounder, and Striper. We may add additional species in the future as we determine that inclusion in our program can help improve their abundance.
Do I have to live in a participating state?
No - anyone can create a profile. We track the state where the fish is released, so if you're visiting a coastal state from Texas to Maine, your releases count. We currently accept releases from coastal states in that range.
Does the fish have to be exactly 20 inches?
We ask that entries be at least 20 inches. We don't require a photo with a ruler - Release Over 20 operates on an honor system. We can generally tell from a photo whether a fish is approximately the right size, and we respectfully ask all participants to uphold that standard.
Can I enter fish I caught in the past?
Yes - but please do not enter fish released prior to January 1, 2026, when we changed databases. Only fish released in the current month are eligible for our monthly live giveaways, but prior releases do count toward our superlative awards (Century Club, Elite 250, etc.). Please enter an accurate release date - we use this data for citizen science tracking, including species releases by month and by state.
How do I know if I won a giveaway?
Winners are announced during our monthly live broadcast on Facebook and YouTube. Make sure you follow us!
